Annihilation
Two failures of modern storytelling can be found in not leaving enough to the imagination and not having an imagination, to begin with. Too often, we watch the yawnfest of Hollywood hoping for something new and novel. Instead, we end up seeing the same stories played out again and again, only with different costumes and a slightly different narrative. Mind-numbing and tedious at best.
This is not that movie.
Annihilation is an example of breaking the monotony of modern story - where the viewer finds themselves tumbling down a rabbit hole that is as fascinating as it is terrifying.
